How to Search Civil Dockets
Need a Brunswick civil docket search? The statewide North Carolina eCourts Portal is the public entry point. Its Smart Search tool can find a case by party name or record number. The Portal covers every county in North Carolina. Add Brunswick as a location filter whenever the docket search should stay local.
Begin with a solid identifier. Then apply the Civil Actions category and review the results. The official Portal guidance also lists attorney, business, nickname, and cross-reference search methods worth trying. Open the matched Brunswick record number. Read the full Case Summary, since an index hit alone tells you little.
- Open Brunswick Smart Search in the North Carolina eCourts Portal.
- Enter a party name or record number and select Brunswick location when needed.
- Choose Brunswick Civil Actions and add a type, status, or filing-date filter only when it helps.
- Open the matched Brunswick record and read Case Events, Hearings, Dispositions, and applicable Financial Information.
- Contact the Brunswick Civil department for the actual public file, signed document, or certification.
Brunswick Civil Docket Filters
Portal filters tame a large Brunswick result set. Choose Civil Actions first. Then set the location filter to Brunswick. The published options include Civil General, Civil Magistrate, Civil Foreclosure (CV), Civil Foreclosure (M), Confession of Judgment, Non-Domestic Restraining Order, and Summary Ejectment.
Domestic groupings exist in the official taxonomy as well. The Judicial Branch has not published the full live dropdown sequence, so stick to the confirmed categories in a Brunswick civil docket search. Do not assume the Portal offers a control or option that the Judicial Branch never listed.
| Portal filter | Use for a Brunswick civil docket | Limit |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Reduce statewide results to Brunswick County | Optional narrowing tool, not proof of Brunswick case absence |
| Civil Actions | Choose the broad Brunswick civil search category | Use a case type only if it matches the matter |
| Case status | Refine a pending Brunswick outcome search | A mismatched status can hide a result |
Brunswick civil filter choices narrow a public search. They do not prove that every filing or document in a case is available online.
What a Civil Docket Shows
Portal labels the detailed public timeline a Case Summary or Register of Actions. A Brunswick civil case breaks into documented sections. They cover Case Information, Assignment Information, Party Information, Causes of Action where they apply, Case Events, Hearings, Dispositions, and Financial Information when relevant.
The docket does not promise online access to every pleading, motion, order, or judgment. A Brunswick Case Summary still works well as a map of the public court record. It also shows the chronology. The official county file rests with the Brunswick County Clerk of Superior Court.
| Record number | The Portal case identifier. The state illustrates the general four-part structure with 21CR000003-910; that published example is not a Brunswick civil case. |
|---|---|
| Party Information | The Brunswick area that organizes people or entities by case role. |
| Causes of Action | Applicable Brunswick civil case categories identified within the Case Summary. |
| Case Events | Chronological Brunswick recorded activity. Read it with the rest of the file. |
| Hearings and Dispositions | Listed Brunswick settings and outcomes; Financial Information appears only where applicable. |
Brunswick Civil Docket Status Filters
Published status examples for a Brunswick civil docket search include Pending, Stayed, Reopened, Unserved, Appealed, Transfer to Another County, Transferred to Superior Court, trial outcomes, final judgment without trial, post-disposition activity, and voluntary dismissal. Treat these as Portal search labels. They are not legal conclusions about a particular Brunswick case.
A narrow search that returns nothing is not proof the civil docket is empty. Widen the filters first. Check the case type and status combination. Then read the Brunswick Case Summary or the clerk file. There you find the events and orders that give a label its meaning. Remember that a status label is only a category. The Case Summary and the underlying court record supply the real context.
Types of Civil Cases on the Docket
Brunswick civil docket categories follow the North Carolina court structure used in Brunswick. They also follow the Portal's public case taxonomy. A case type works as a search and organizational label. It cannot tell you the remedy, the filing status, or whether every document is online. Still, these documented categories give practical starting points for a Brunswick civil case lookup:
- Civil General
- Civil Magistrate
- Civil Foreclosure (CV) and Civil Foreclosure (M)
- Confession of Judgment
- Non-Domestic Restraining Order
- Summary Ejectment
- Applicable civil domestic groupings
Brunswick Civil Docket Court Split
Money divides Brunswick civil cases between two courts. Brunswick Superior Court hears civil cases over $25,000. Brunswick District Court handles civil cases at or below $25,000. Magistrate small-claims work stays within the District Court system. Statewide materials cite a general $10,000 small-claims maximum, but no separate Brunswick ceiling appears in them. Ask the Clerk about current local practice.
The split does not create two record offices. The Brunswick County Clerk of Superior Court keeps both the Superior and District Court files. For civil docket and file questions, the Brunswick Civil department is the local contact.
| Brunswick court path | Civil docket coverage | Local custodian |
|---|---|---|
| Superior Court | Civil cases over $25,000 | Brunswick County Clerk of Superior Court |
| District Court and magistrates | Civil cases at or below $25,000, including the small-claims channel | Brunswick County Clerk of Superior Court |
Court division decides where a Brunswick matter is heard. In every case, the Brunswick County Clerk of Superior Court keeps both local files.
Settings and Hearings on Civil Dockets
To verify a civil setting, pair the hearing details in a Brunswick Case Summary with Brunswick Portal Search Hearings. Search Hearings accepts case, party, business, attorney, bar-number, judicial-officer, and courtroom keys. The Brunswick local schedule adds useful session context.
One caution. A Brunswick Civil Session or stand-by calendar does not promise that any single case will be called. A Case Event can also linger in the court record after a later change. A setting can move or look uncertain. Confirm it with the Brunswick Civil department instead of trusting an older schedule.
Brunswick Civil Docket Calendar Request
District 13B Attachment E: Calendar Request is the named Brunswick Superior Court civil-calendaring form. It asks the Trial Court Coordinator to set a matter on the schedule. Note what it is not. It is not a request for a public record, copy, or certified case document. The form lists the Brunswick file number, plaintiff or plaintiffs, defendant or defendants, and whether the movant is a plaintiff or defendant. It also names the person requesting the court setting.
| Case identity | File No., Plaintiff(s), Defendant(s), and movant checkbox. |
|---|---|
| Motion request | Requested date and time needed, plus documented motion choices such as dismiss, summary judgment, compel, amend, default judgment, or other. |
| Trial request | Requested date and length, jury or non-jury choice, pretrial-order status, issues, conflicts, and special circumstances. |
| Requester details | Signature, service information, contact fields, and attorney or pro se role checkbox. |
Note: Filing a finished Calendar Request only seeks a court setting. It is not a request for the Clerk to pull a public case record.
Brunswick Civil Docket Monday Call
One local detail on the Brunswick Calendar Request stands out. It says to appear at the Monday calendar call. The requester can also tell the Trial Court Coordinator's office where a motion or trial stands. That is scheduling practice, nothing more. It does not replace a Portal check. It does not replace a look at the current calendar or a call to the Clerk about the actual file.
The form for a Superior Court motion lists specific choices. Among them are To Dismiss, Summary Judgment, Compel, Change Venue, Withdraw, Default Judgment, Amend, Injunctive Relief, Transfer to Superior Court, Contempt, and Other. Marking one box is still just a request. The court's own setting process has to run its course.
Public Access to Civil Dockets
Portal lets anyone search public civil Case Summaries anonymously, within legal limits. Two cautions apply. Portal is not the official record. Its public view does not prove that every filed document is online. For public case material, the direct county routes are the Clerk's file and the public terminals. Lawful restrictions still apply.
Protected, sealed, confidential, juvenile, and restricted data follow different rules. A plain public lookup grants no elevated access. And if a record is absent online, do not read that as proof the case never existed.
Key Rules:
G.S. 7A-109 covers clerk-maintained court records, dockets, and public inspection unless a law prohibits access.
G.S. 132-6.2 addresses copy media, certification, actual costs, and prompt response duties.
G.S. 7B-3000 protects juvenile records from ordinary public inspection.
Brunswick Civil Docket Civil Plan
The Brunswick civil plan spells out how civil cases move. It covers time to trial, discovery, mediation, motions, nonjury matters, scheduling, calendar call, weeks of court, priority settings, continuances, bankruptcy, inactive status, and notice of settlement.
One piece of that plan is a stand-by pattern. It applies to the first through fifth civil weeks. Treat it as scheduling context only. It does not promise that any particular case will be reached or stay on the calendar. For a firm answer, check the current case record and any applicable order. Then get confirmation from the Clerk.
Brunswick Civil Docket File Access
Need the pleading, motion, signed order, judgment, or a certified copy? That paper lives with the Brunswick County Clerk of Superior Court. Civil, special-proceeding, and estate case information can be searched at the public terminals. The file itself gets viewed in the county where the case sits.
One route can trip people up. NCAOC offers a general public-record request process, but it covers Judicial Branch agency records. It does not replace asking the county Clerk. That office actually holds the Brunswick court case file, so ask there for the court document you need. And File & Serve is just a filing application. It is not the public civil docket reader.

Brunswick Civil Docket Restrictions
The public Portal view hides or limits some personal information in Brunswick County civil records. Domestic-violence and protective-order material gets special treatment online. Need access to a particular civil record? Ask the Clerk. The Clerk can address the county file and any restriction that applies.
There is a narrow route to limit what the public sees. The AOC-A-250 notice lets you ask the Clerk a specific thing. It requests removal of qualifying personal identifying information from public posting. It is not a motion, and it cannot change a case outcome. Nor does it replace a civil records request.
A Case Summary can show what docket activity is public. Still, the Clerk should confirm whether a filing is available, restricted, or certifiable.
